Tobago: Eight injured after two boats collide off Pigeon Point

Trinidad and Tobago: Two boats crashed in the waters off Pigeon Point, in Tobago, at around 6 pm on Sunday. Eight persons traveling on the boats were injured during the collision.

The vessels involved were a local pirogue and a tour boat, associated with the local tour operator Waterholics. As a result of the crash, one of the passengers went flying from one boat to another, while several others sustained head injuries.

Emergency teams rushed to the site and took the injured people to Scarborough General Hospital. The authorities have not disclosed the state of their conditions as of now.

One of the passengers has been identified as Camille Joseph of Crown Point Tobago. She was sitting in one of the boats when the two vessels collided. She suffered injuries to her left leg along with chest pains.

An official in the water sports industry stated that his girlfriend was one of the passengers on one of the two boats. He said that she did not have any major injuries but later complained of pain and was taken to the hospital.

The collision took place about five months after a jet ski crash at Pigeon Point that killed a seven-year-old child identified as Angelica Jogie. Her death raised concerns about safety at Tobago’s recreational beaches and the need to have stricter controls on water activities.

It also led to temporary closing of local marine operators while they were investigated by the police.

An investigation into the recent incident remains ongoing, as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
