Barbados: A healthcare delegation from Tobago visited Barbados from August 18 to 20, 2026. The aim of the visit was to study the digital health systems of the country and gather practical knowledge that could help in improving Tobago’s electronic health records rollout.

Dr. Faye Brebner led this delegation and it was a three-day technical mission that focused on how Barbados manages health information. The aim of this was also to study how the country uses digital systems and technology across hospitals.

The delegation studied the health information systems at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They focused on how digital information supports healthcare and how it operates.

The MedData platform which is across the healthcare system of Barbados, was also reviewed by the delegation.

Then the Tobago team also visited the Winston Scott and Edgar Cochrane Polyclinics as a part of the three-day mission. During this visit, the officials observed how digital systems operate in primary care settings and how information moves through different stages of patient care.

Dr. Berbner said that the visit was not only aimed to observe technology. The purpose of the visit was also to understand the systems and the challenges which are being faced during implementation so that the officials could recognise which lessons could be adapted for Tobago.

The information that the delegation gathered during the technical mission will help Tobago to refine its health records rollout. The planned improvements will help to reduce delays in operations and improve continuity of care between healthcare facilities.

This visit was a part of wider healthcare cooperation between the two countries. Earlier, health officials had a formal discussion to establish this exchange.

Barbados shared its experience and helped Tobago in recognising the approaches that could support its own healthcare system.

This cooperation has also included a reciprocal exchange that involved Barbadian officials in Tobago. A Barbadian delegation toured Scarborough General Hospital and Roxborough Hospital earlier. The discussions focused on hospital planning, infrastructure, facility design and daily operations.

At Roxborough Hospital, the delegation also examined its integrated model that combines the primary and secondary healthcare services.

These exchanges provide both sides with a chance to share practical experience and identify approaches that they can adapt themselves to improve their healthcare delivery.
