San Lazaro man dies after motorcycle crashes into culvert near Yo Creek

Belize: A 40-year-old man from San Lazaro Village was found dead after crashing his motorbike along the road towards Yo Creek Village in the Orange Walk district of Belize on Wednesday.

The police received an anonymous call at around 8:30 am on September 16, after a lifeless body of a man was discovered lying under a motorcycle that was stuck in the drain one mile away from Yo Creek.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man beneath a black dirt bike near the entrance of a culvert. He had sustained multiple injuries, which included injuries to his face, a broken left arm, and serious damage to his left leg.

Police identified the deceased man as Bernardo Joel Melara from San Lazaro Village and is an employee of BSI.

According to the initial findings, the crash may have happened between Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Officers said that Melara was driving from Yo Creek to Orange Walk Town when he apparently swerved towards the right side of the road.

He is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle before crashing into the culvert. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Malera was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he died officially around 10:30 am.

The black Lifan motorcycle was seized at the Orange Walk Police Station. The vehicle will be examined as part of their ongoing probe.

Malera’s body remains at the morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination. The police are still investigating the fatal motorcycle accident.
