Royal Caribbean employee sentenced to 30 years for secretly filming children on cruise

An employee of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship has been sentenced to prison for 30 years after being proven guilty of secretly filming young kids naked on cruise.

Arvin Joseph Mirasol, the 34-year-old culprit was found guilty on Wednesday of capturing kids’ videos as young as 2-year-old and producing child sexual abuse material.

The culprit was a Philippine national who often planted cameras in guest cabins, and hid them under the beds to record young kids taking and getting out of the shower.

Mirasol was found guilty and was detained on the ship on 25th February at the Symphony of the Seas ship after a girl on the cruise found a camera fixed to the counter underneath the sink. She made the discovery after the cruise ship sailed from Southern Florida.

Mirasol was immediately fired, once the ship returned back to Port Everglades in March. Upon investigations, Mirasol also admitted to his heinous acts of spying on young girls since December 2023.

Police officials then further initiated investigations that revealed several videos of children in various stages of being undressed in the culprit’s devices. Police stated that he disturbingly zoomed in on the child’s genitals.

In one of the recordings discovered by investigators, Mirasol was also seen placing a camera in a guest restroom.

According to a criminal complaint, one of the recordings depicted a 10-year-old girl undressing and bathing while her genitals were “clearly visible” and were actually “the focus of the video.”

Most of the videos found in the man’s devices determined that the children’s ages ranged from 2 to 17 years and they also found Several “voyeurism-related” searches on the man’s phone, including “teen in bed.”

Authorities Upon questioning Mirasol about how he chose which rooms to target, he answered, “If I like who is in that room, I place it.”

Notably, Mirasol was arrested in March, however, he has been sentenced to prison this week. In regard to the culprit’s arrest, Royal Caribbean stated, “We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour from everyone. This is totally unacceptable.”

Mirasol’s lawyer however remained silent on his arrest and he is now being held at the Broward County Jail following his arrest.
