PM Drew inaugurates “Sound Your Future” summer camp

St Kitts and Nevis: The Sound Your Future Summer Camp, an initiative by Prime Minister Terrance Drew was launched officially on Monday, 19th August 2024.
This summer camp based on the theme “Building Our Own Unique Sound to Create a Future We Love to Hear,” is a week-long event, currently taking place at the Solid Waste Conference Room, Taylors Road.
PM Drew on its inaugural event addressed the participants, while emphasizing the importance of co-holistic activities in the social, emotional and intellectual development of the children.
The camp has been planned to include several activities and courses for the overall enhancement of children and to encourage young talent. These courses include teaching songwriting skills, spoken word training, and music production.
The summer camp is an initiative taken collaboratively along with the National Calypso Monarch Queen Independent. The camp not only aims to enhance the musical skills of the participants, but it focuses more on developing their overall personality to contribute positively to the community.
Naeemah Hazelle, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office also attended the summer camp on its inaugural day where she highlighted the importance of the summer camp as an alternative to detrimental activities.
She also highlighted the construction of the Creative Arts Centre will provide opportunities for children to hone their talent. She noted that the Arts Centre will ensure them of a platform to showcase their talent in order to promote the nation’s cultural heritage.
The event will also feature several artists and coaches including Jelani Shaw from Trinidad, Cory Tyson and Venelle Powell from Nevis, Loghlin Tatem, Creighton Pension, Larry Vaughan, and MJ Byron from St Kitts.
Topics such as writing, pan, production, performance, music engineering, and business taught by the experts will provide the kids with in-depth and invaluable knowledge to enhance their skills and experience.
PM Drew noted the summer camp as an opportunity to cherish, while he said. “Sound Your Future Summer Camp 2024, is more than just an event, it is a movement towards building a future that resonates with the harmonious sounds of creativity, friendship, and positive change.”
Notably, the camp designed for kids aged 10-18, will take place till 23rd August 2024 and its timings are from 9 am to 3 pm. This program will help children hone their musical talent at an early age leading them to establish a strong base towards their musical career.
