Grenada’s Anderson Peters wins bronze in Javelin at Lausanne Diamond League

Lausanne Diamond League 2026

Grenada’s Anderson Peters has won the bronze in men’s javelin at the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland on Friday, August 21, 2026. He scored 86.69 metres, which is among his best performances of this year.

Peters finished third behind Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage and India’s Neeraj Chopra. Pathirage won the event with 88.14m and Chopra bagged the silver with 88.05m. This win has strengthened the position of Grenada at another major international athletics meeting.

Peters achieved his best mark during the fourth round of throws. The score of 86.69m was among his best performances of the 2026 season. This throw helped him secure third place in a highly competitive event.

Peters’ result at the Lausanne Diamond League adds to his strong 2026 season. He started the Diamond League with a win in Rabat, where he threw 86.08m. He then finished second in Rome with 83.91m before taking another second-place finish in Doha with 86.38m.

Peters is one of the strongest javelin athletes of Grenada who has produced encouraging international performances. He is a two-time world champion as he won gold at the World Championships in 2019 and 2022. He also won bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics and bagged the Diamond League Final title in 2024.

The 28-year-old has also made history for Grenada at the Pan American Games. He won javelin gold in Lima in 2019 and became the first athlete from Grenada to win a gold medal at the Games.

Earlier, in 2024, Peters won the javelin event at the same meeting with a throw of 90.61m. This year, his score keeps him among the leading javelin throwers in the Diamond League series. He already secured qualification for the Diamond League Final after collecting 22 points before arriving in Lausanne.

Peters’ bronze is an important result on the world athletics stage. His exceptional throw shows that he can compete at the highest level with his exceptional skills.

The Lausanne Diamond League, which is historically known as Athletissima, is an annual track and field meeting. It is held in Lausanne, Switzerland from when it was established on 8 July 1977. The 2026 edition of the event started on Thursday, 20 August 2026 and concluded on Friday, 21 August.
