Dominica’s Janice Jean-Jacques Thomas to receive National Day Honour for decades of service

Dominica’s Social Security (DSS) Executive Director Janice Jean Jacques Thomas will be awarded on National Day 2026 for the level of excellence achieved by her and the team.

During one of his addresses at the opening ceremony of 34th CARICOM Meeting of Heads of Social Security Organization , Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit acknowledged the hard-work, efforts and commitment of Executive Director of Dominica Social Security - Janice Jean Jacques Thomas for the level of security, exceptional management and discipline executed by her team under her management.

Further rewarding her, PM Skerrit announced that she will be receiving an award on the National Day 2026 which is scheduled for November 3 for demonstrating the capability and efficiency of matters relating to security of both common public and high level cadets in Dominica.

Janice Jean Jacques Thomas will receive the award on National Day on November 3, 2026 for her commitment towards service and hard work in the last 44 years of her life which she dedicated to her country. She also has one of the historic career milestones of being the second longest serving employee of Dominica Social Security (DSS).

Her career began in May 1980 when she started working as a junior clerk and later being promoted to the position of senior clerk in 1984 and then further upgrading herself by becoming the director’s secretary in 1985 and then moving up the ladder to serve as a personnel officer in 1990.

After a period of brief service in defence and security oriented roles, her career pivoted towards a new direction with her stepping into a new domain and role as Manager of Administration for four years from 1992 to 1996 after which she led the contributions department for a brief period from 1996 to 1999.

Following her stint as lead for the Contributions department she was further promoted to Executive Director on December 1, 2006 for which she is serving in office to present marking nearly 30 years.

Earlier Janice Jean Jacques Thomas was recognized, appreciated and honoured for her unwavering hard work, dedication, perseverance and discipline with which she served the Dominica Social Security for the last 46 years on the occasion of 50th anniversary celebration of Dominica Social Service.
