The CFU Under 14 Boy’s Challenge Series 2024 continued for the third day on Sunday, 18 August. The weekend hosted the football fans with ten face-offs at the four different venues in Trinidad and Tobago.
The football tournament introduced by the Caribbean Football Union for young boys brought twenty teams on the ground to present the challenges. A total of twenty-three teams are participating in the multi-nation series from across the Caribbean.
On Sunday, ten matches were scheduled among which six were between the teams placed in the groups of Tier 2. The remaining four matches were between the eight teams from two groups of Tier 1.
The matches were hosted at the venues of ATO Boldon Stadium, Larry Gomes Stadium, Hasely Crawford Stadium, and Dwight Yorke Stadium.
The first match of CFU Under 14 Boy’s Challenge Series 2024 on Sunday started at 11:00 am. The two matches were scheduled for the teams of Tier 2 to begin the day. One match was between Bonaire and Grenada from group C at ATO Boldon Stadium.
In the Bonaire versus Grenada match, the young teams of boys scored five goals in total and ended the game with the final whistle of 4-1. The match finished in the favour of the Grenada team, which scored two goals in both halves of the game.
The team of Bonaire was able to score just one goal that came in the first half of the match. At the same time, the second match Antigua and Barbuda versus St Vincent and the Grenadines from Group A. The match was scheduled at Larry Gomes Stadium.
In this match, the game ended with just one goal in total. The first half of the face-off was finished without any number above zero on the scoreboard. However, in the second half, the boys of St Vincent and the Grenadines scored one goal to collect the winning points.
The third match on the day for the Tier 2 teams was at 02:00 pm between Barbados and Cayman Islands from Group A.
The match was at Larry Gomes Stadium, which ended with a score of 4-1 on the board. The team of Barbados was on the winning side, who took over the game with a difference of three goals.
The first half of the match ended with 1-1 goals, while the second half was dominated by the Barbados team. At 04:00 pm on the day, two more games were played by Tier 2 teams.
One match at Hasely Crawford Stadium between the Turks and Caicos Islands team and the Dominica team from Group B.
The Turks and Caicos Islands versus Dominica match was finished with a score of 3-0. The Dominica team faced a defeat in the match, and its players were not able to score any goal.
The Turks and Caicos Islands team scored one goal in the first half and two in the second half of the match.
Another match at Larry Gomes Stadium was between the U-14 teams of Sint Maarten and Bermuda from Group C. The match was completely dominated by the boys of Bermuda, who scored the highest number of goals in the CFU Under 14 Boy’s Challenge Series 2024 till now.
In total, 11 goals were scored in the match, from which 10 came from the side of Bermuda. The match was sealed by the Bermuda team in the first half, which ended with a score of 8-0. The final whistle was blown with the score of 10-1 on the board in favor of Bermuda.
The last match of Tier 2 was at 06:00 pm between Anguilla and US Virgin Islands from Group B. The match was taken away by the team of the US Virgin Islands with a score of 5-0. Anguilla ended the day without any goal in the match.
The matches of Tier 1 boy’s teams were held on Sunday at venues of ATO Boldon and Dwight Yorke Stadium, two each. ATO Boldon Stadium hosted two matches of Group B, St Martin versus Curacao, and Puerto Rico versus French Guiana.
Meanwhile, Dwight Yorke Stadium hosted two matches of Group A, Aruba versus Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago versus St Kitts and Nevis. The match of Puerto Rico versus French Guiana at 04:00 pm was the only match of Tier 1 on the day that ended with goals for both sides.
The Puerto Rican and French Guiana teams both scored a goal in the match and finished the game with a score of 1-1 by sharing the points. In the rest of the three matches, the victor team took the match points without letting the opponents score a single goal.
The match between St Martin and Curacao at 02:00 pm ended in favor of Curacao’s U-14 boys, with a final score of 0-2. The matches of Aruba versus Jamaica at 04:30 pm and Trinidad and Tobago versus St Kitts and Nevis at 06:30 pm ended with scores of 6-0 and 5-0 in favor of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, respectively.
