The British airlines ‘Virgin Atlantic’ has announced a setback for their Caribbean passengers in Bahamas and Turks and Caicos as it ceases its operations from the respective countries. The airlines took this decision following its network review.

The airlines reported that their final flight from Heathrow Airport, London to Turks and Caicos will depart on 21st February 2025. On the other hand, the last flight to Bahamas from the London- Heathrow Airport will depart two days later that is on 23rd February 2025.

Notably, the Virgin Atlantic airline is currently operating 3 flights a week to Bahamas and 2 to Turks and Caicos. The airline has also stated that the flights that are cancelled will be used to lay on more flights to several more destinations including Antigua and Barbados in the Caribbean and Cape Town in South Africa.

“As we continue to focus on optimizing our network, we regularly review the destinations we fly to. As part of this, we’ve made the decision to increase our frequencies to Antigua, Barbados, and Cape Town next year, and to sadly suspend operations to The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos” A spokesperson of the airlines stated.

The airlines in light of the cancellation extended an apology to their customers and emphasized that any bookings already made will be provided with other compensation options by the airlines.

Following the cancellation, the Virgin Atlantic airline is reported to increase its services to Antigua this October from one flight a week to four flights a week. Apart from this, the airlines will also increase its services to Barbados from seven to ten flights a week. However, it will continue to operate its direct flights to Montego Bay four times a week. On the other hand, the airline’s operation to Cape Town seasonally will be extended for one more month until 30th April 2025.

This is to be noted that the Virgin Atlantic airlines regularly review its network diversification in an effort to search for optimum destinations where the airlines can earn a decent revenue. Several destinations including Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Port Harcourt, Accra, Nairobi, Mauritius, Lahore, Islamabad, San Juan, Kingston, Tobago, Varadero, Cancun, Havana, Chicago, Detroit, Austin, and Newark have been fallen into and then out of operation as part of the airlines network administration.
