The first commercial transatlantic flight of Virgin Atlantic airlines arrive at St Vincent and Grenadines. The flight landed at Argyle International Airport.

The airlines inaugurated the first flight operation on October 14 between London and St Vincent and the Grenadines with the airbus A330-300 aircraft. According to the decisions the similar flight operations would be conducted every week on Wednesday and Sunday. The flight would be flying with the halt in Barbados. The flight would be offering 1064 seats every week.

Carlos James, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, said, “We have a history of trading with the United Kingdom, and the signature of these important instruments will enable St. Vincent and the Grenadines to facilitate even greater movement of people, goods and services, bridging the gap that keeps us apart as global citizens.”

The statement by the aviation Minister stated that in the coming days, St Vincent and the Grenadines would be performing as a major aviation hub in the Caribbean region. This statement was made after signing a memorandum of understanding with aviation authorities of the United kingdom’s as well as Northern Ireland dated back on October 11 this year.

This is for the first time in the history of St Vincent and the Grenadines that this Island country has been given a greater access for the markets across this old continent. This decision is expected to boost the activities on the island that was, however, not properly working due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Argyle Airport is known as the entry gate of the country that mainly serves Kingstown, the capital of St Vincent and the Grenadines. In February 2017, this airport was inaugurated. This new airport was constructed after replacing the small E.T. Joshua Airport, which was overcrowded and without room to expand.

Currently, Argyle is served by American Airlines to Miami (MIA); InterCaribbean to Grenada (GND) and Barbados (BGI); One Caribbean to Barbados (BGI); Caribbean Airlines to Barbados (BGI), Grenada (GND), Port of Spain (POS) and New York (JFK) and LIAT to Grenada (GND), Barbados (BGI), St. Lucia (SLU) and Antigua (ANU). As of December 2021, Air Canada will be added from Toronto (YYZ).
