Prime Minister Skerrit outlined key developments and goals for Dominica’s future.

The proposed changes would extend paid leave and workplace protections to fathers and adoptive parents while removing limits on how often maternity benefits can be claimed.

Speaking at the New Year’s address, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre said the agreement is non-binding, creates no automatic obligation, triggers no immediate action and does not change US visa policy for Saint Lucians.

PM Pierre said that the projects will create jobs and unlock growth for the infrastructural growth, aiming to modernize ports and airports.

PM Drew emphasized that the Prime Creative Arts Centre will empower young people, foster creativity, and play a key role in diversifying the nation’s economy.

Currently, around 1,100 Dominicans are employed at the construction site of the international airport.

The $400,000 upgrade to Basketball City in St. Kitts and Nevis includes modernizing the facility with new seating, lights, and expanded amenities, aiming to empower young athletes and support national competitions.

The year starts with away T20I series followed by the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

PM Skerrit said the agreement reflects ongoing dialogue with the United States and underscores Dominica’s role as a willing and reliable regional partner.

PM Browne said the agreement will allow Antigua and Barbuda to assist with refugee resettlement, with full support from the U.S.

The Bureau will continue to monitor the evolving situation and its impact on economic activity within the Community, particularly air travel.

St. Kitts and Nevis saw a historic decline in homicides, with only seven reported in 2025, compared to 28 in 2024.

During his New Year’s address, he said they are taking quick action to address the U.S. restrictions on issuing new visas to Antigua and Barbuda's nationals.

PM Drew said the healthcare sector in St Kitts and Nevis is undergoing major transformation, with Nigerian professionals contributing their skills and experience to serve the nation.

PM Drew noted that a nation prospers not only through economic growth, but through the dignity, well-being and opportunity afforded to every citizen.

He highlighted decisive government actions, including a revised minimum wage and the removal of VAT and customs duties on essential food items to ease the burden on households.

The confirmation was provided by Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica and Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda.

Reports indicate that other nationals from Saint Lucia were also denied visas during the same period, raising concerns about US immigration practices.

To date, 313 of these homes have already been handed over to beneficiaries, with the remaining units in the final stages of completion.
