Trinidad: Police arrest suspect, seize 4 illegal firearms during raids

Trinidad and Tobago: The law enforcement department conducted several operations focused on different localities across Trinidad on Wednesday, 14 August.
The crime eradication exercises by the dedicated police teams led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of four illegal firearms along with ammunition.
The crime eradication exercises were primarily dedicated to the Eastern and Port of Spain Divisions of Trinidad, which led to the finding of quantities of illegal possessions.
The police teams took action in the districts of Balandra, Matura, and the Port of Sapin, information of which was shared by the authority officially.
As per the available information on the seizure of firearms and ammunition, the first crime eradication exercise was conducted in the Balandra district of Trinidad.
On Wednesday, the mission was executed by the officers from the Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit.
The seven hours long operation was stretched between the hours of 11:00 am to 06:00 pm.
During the action, the police officers dedicated to the case made their way to a forested area of the district. In the locality, a search was conducted, which resulted in the discovery of an illegal rifle.
In the forested area, the officers found a black garbage bag, which was checked. In the garbage bag, the officers explored a hidden AR-15 rifle loaded with a magazine.
The officers also found a pistol along with the rifle, which contained eight counts of active bullets in the fitted magazine.
The illegal findings in the forested area of Balandra were seized and transported to the police station.
No arrest was reported in this mission. The other crime eradication exercise was conducted in the Port of Spain Division of Trinidad on the same day, which also ended with the seizure of an illegal firearm.
Reportedly, the police officers from the Task Force unit in the region were on mobile patrols in the district when the discovery was made. The exercise was conducted between the hours of 01:00 pm to 06:30 pm. During the patrols, one team of officers suspected a motor vehicle, which was searched.
It is mentioned that officers on duty spotted a Mazda CX3 motor vehicle of black color, which was stopped and searched. In the search of the vehicle, the officers collected a firearm that was possessed illegally by the male suspect in the car.
Police seized the illegal weapon along with a quantity of ammunition and two extended magazines, which were also recovered from the motor car. The man in the driving seat was also arrested for the unlawful act. The suspect is identified as a 40-year-old man, who is now under police custody.
The authorities shared details of the third major crime eradication operation, which was dedicated to the Matura district of Trinidad. The exercise was conducted from 11:00 pm on Wednesday, 14 August, to 02:00 am on Thursday, 15 August.
The operation in Matura, Trinidad, resulted in the recovery of a homemade shotgun along with two cartridges of 12 gauge cartridges. The illegal items were found from an abandoned car in the locality. The investigation is under process by the police department in all the cases.
