Trinidad and Tobago: A 40-year-old man was shot and killed on October 21, 2026, in Malick, Barataria. He has been identified as Shimmel Marshall, a resident from Watson Court Extension in Couva.

This case is similar to another incident which took place on the same day in Malick in 2025. In both cases, the men visited Malick with friends after answering advertisements for cars online. They were approached by masked gunmen demanding money who opened fire after not receiving the valuables.

Shimmel Marshall shot during car purchase

Marshall was traveling to Ninth Avenue in a gold Nissan Tiida at about 11:45 am with another 57-year-old man. He went there to check a car that was advertised on Facebook Marketplace for $15,000. When they reached LP11, three masked men stopped their car.

Two of the perpetrators were said to be armed. One of the gunmen came close to Marshall, who was seated inside the car and asked for money. Marshall responded that he had no money on him, which made the assailant fire several shots at him.

The suspects ran westward along Ninth Avenue. Marshall's companion then took him to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was pronounced dead.

Crime scene investigators recovered two 9mm shell casings and other evidence from the crime scene.

Steve Anthony killed in similar attack in 2025

The first incident took place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Steve Anthony was traveling with a friend towards Upper Ninth Avenue to see a car he saw online. He was driving a white Toyota Corolla and reached the location at about 9:30 am.

Two masked gunmen approached the vehicle and demanded money. Anthony tried to reverse the car but the vehicle got stuck in the embankment. One of the gunmen fired shots, some of which hit Anthony. His friend managed to escape from the crime scene and alerted the police authorities.

Upon their arrival, the police found Anthony having several gunshot wounds in the west side of Upper Ninth Avenue. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he passed away at 10:16 am.

Investigators also reported that they came across two 9mm shell casings and Anthony’s Toyota Corolla. Investigation is still ongoing.
