Mechanic dies after car collides with lorry in Corentyne, Guyana

Guyana: A 26-year-old mechanic lost his life after the vehicle that he was driving had a collision with a motor lorry along the Nigg Public Road on Tuesday morning. He has been identified as Joshua Crawford from Alness Village in Corentyne.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the fatal collision took place around 5:11 am when Crawford’s vehicle PZZ 5030 crashed into lorry GAF 3405. Officers said that the lorry was traveling east on the northern lane, while the deceased was moving west on the southern side of the road.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle turned to the lorry’s lane and collided with it coming from the opposite direction of the road.

Crawford suffered serious injuries from the accident. Witnesses rescued him from the crashed car in an unconscious state and rushed him to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. Following an assessment of his condition, he was taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The lorry was being driven by Raymond Swamber, a 29 year-old man from ‘B’ Alness Village. Police said that a breathalyzer test recorded readings of 16 and 13 micrograms. Extensive damages were caused to both of these vehicles, leaving them in a non-operational condition.

Police are still investigating the crash into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The exact cause of his death has not been identified as of now. Investigations remain ongoing.
