Dominica telecommunications service provider, Digicel has announced a $5 hike in its prices effective 1st September 2024. The authorities announced the surge in response to provide uninterrupted services to the customers.
The network providers shared a hike in their Classic TV + Fibre 250 plan of $5 hike as the new plan will cost $140 to its customers.
The operations manager for Digicel, noted that this surge in prices will not only improve the viewer’s world class home fibre experience, whereas it will provide an access to newly added cable TV channels.
Notably, Digicel earlier offered the same plan under $135 while providing access to 71 news channels. However, the new plan will offer an access to 4 more channels totalling to 75.
An email was sent to Digicel’s customers stating the new price while noting that the change has been addressed 30 days in advance as the new prices are set to be implemented on 1st September 2024.
The operations manager also emphasized their dedication to providing their customers the best experience while noting that, “You Deserve to have the best, and we hold ourselves at a high standard for you, making each and every effort to balance the need to invest in services that Dominicans use and love while also keeping the prices and services on a competitive and compelling scale.”
The company added that it is difficult to manage the business as they are facing a significant hike in increasing costs to manage their firm. Although the authorities stated a hike in prices, they assured the customers to maintain a high level of service.
Digicel, a 23-year-old company comes at top for providing network services to its customers across the Caribbean. Digicel with more than 10 million customers is expanded to 25 countries, providing Mobile network services, Home Broadband + TV services and business solutions to firms.
On the other hand, netizens are expressing a dissatisfaction on this decision by the company as they share their views on social media.
Tessa Jno Baptiste, a social media user, stated, “Digicel, stop talking nonsense about good service for money. That’s the worst service on the island. That’s why everyone is going to flow. Trust me, I preferred SAT AND MARTIN.”
Craige Francois, another user, stated, “So all the bills are going up. When is the salary going up to surpass these bills? Must be people will have to choose between eating and technology sometime soon. This is madness. Domlec then Dowasco, now digicel, flow next? And the more u pay, the worse their service becomes; where’s the money going?”
“There is not enough competition in Dominica, and that’s why the prices for internet and cable packages are so high. There are places where internet is $25 USD (currency conversation) per month and that includes cable and data for up to 5 family members. Just saying.“ Onezerofour Thom another user added.
