MBS launches free Health Screening camp in Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda: A free health and wellness fair is set to take place in Barbuda on 24th August 2024 between 9 am to 5 pm. This initiative under Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) of Antigua and Barbuda, aims to improve health security among local population.

The health and wellness fair is scheduled to take place at Holy Trinity Primary School and it partners with Frank B. Amstrong, an AIDS Secretariat.

The health fair will include screening for several diseases and issues, including Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Cholesterol, Breast Screening, prostate screening, Eye examination, HbA1c, and Body Mass Index (BMI).

Experts will be present at the venue to provide a deep counselling related to nutrition and health in order to maintain a healthy height and weight leading to a phenomenal BMI. Health experts including doctors and nurses will also be present at the venue to provide instant diagnosis and treatment to the conditions.

The organizers of the event have emphasized that all services provided at the health and wellness fair will be free of charge, ensuring that everyone has access to these important health resources.

Apart from health checkups, the health camp will also feature educational sessions on different health topics, including the importance of regular checkups for everyone of every age, preventive cares, and chronic health conditions. These sessions are planned in accordance to provide the residents with the knowledge to take control of their health.

Notably, the Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) of Antigua and Barbuda has been actively involved in such initiatives to provide locals with a deep insight into their health. MBS is a government-funded program that aims to raise awareness of healthcare.

As the MBS collaborates with Frank B. Armstrong AIDS Secretariat, the event is also expected to discuss crucial measures on controlling the rising cases of HIV/AIDS in the community. The secretariat is expected to address the participants on prevention of the disease and will also provide support to those affected.

This Health initiative by MBS will ensure an overall health wellbeing of residents in Barbuda as it will provide free health screening, counselling, disease detection, treatment and prevention. This early detection will help to cope up with rising cases in communicable diseases.
