WiMAC team visits “The Wesley High School Dominica”, foster maritime sector

The team of Women in Maritime Association Caribbean visited “The Wesley High School Dominica” on September 11, 2023. The team interacted with the students and enhance their information about maritime sector.

Roseau, Dominica: The team of Women in Maritime Association Caribbean visited “The Wesley High School Dominica” on September 11, 2023. The team interacted with the students and enhance their information about maritime sector.

The aim of the visit was to profess the idea of the sustainability among the young minds of the Caribbean. The team has also outlined numerous career opportunities in the Maritime field and said that the sector is filled with great opportunities.

The team asserted that one can find the value of the maritime as the career and in the life when there is the proper exploration and study of the field in the place. Further, their interaction with the students serves them great sense of accomplishment as they lauded their passion for knowledge and their curiosity for the maritime sectors.

The students also find the great opportunity in interacting with the maritime team. They shared their experience and asked about tertiary education opportunities in Maritime. The team has outlined that the students can efficiently pursue their careers in the maritime field in the Caribbean Maritime Institute in Jamaica.

They shared systematic information about the institute and said that the students who are interested can pursue their studies in navigation and marine engineering. The interaction of the team with the students also focused on the analyzes of the opportunities in becoming a maritime lawyer and a marine biologist.

The WiMAC members from the Dominica Air and Sea Port Authority (DASPA) shared about their different positions at DASPA and working at the Woodbridge Bay Port. Vernesta Newton from Vees Shipping shared with the students the process to get a package shipped to Dominica and into their hands.

The WiMAC said that they encouraged the students and send the feelings of the motivation into their head. They added that the zeal and enthusiasm of the students about the maritime field motivated them. The overwhelmed response of the students makes them encourage about their organization.

They also extended thanked the Principal, Kurshner Telemacque-Rabess for allowing them to have another encouraging session with students as they prepare to celebrate World Maritime Day. They are grateful to her entire staff for participating in their discussions with the students.

Women in Maritime Association Caribbean 

Women in Maritime Association Caribbean is an organization aimed to foster the development and participation of women in the maritime sector. It works for the betterment of the maritime sector and improve the role in the sector.

The school visits at the different schools of the Caribbean is aimed to develop good environment for the sector.
