“Will miss Mia Mottley at CHOGM,” says CSG Scotland as Barbados PM tests positive

Caribbean: Patricia Scotland- the sixth and first lady of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, expressed unhappiness after hearing that Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic and wished her fast recovery. 

Prime Minister Mia Mottley will not be able to attend the CHOGM 2022 due to her COVID-19 positive report. Patricia Scotland expressed her sadness over her inability to attend the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022. 

Through her social media, Patricia Scotland noted, “So sad to hear that my dear sister and friend won’t be able to join us at CHOGM 2022 in Kigali. She’ll be sorely missed as her voice resonates throughout the world. Get better soon. Together always.”

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has turned out positive against the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday, June 20, 2022. 

Reportedly, the government of Barbados stated that the situation of Prime Minister Mia Mottley is stable as she is showing mild symptoms. Her health condition is doing well. 

As per the advice of the doctors, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will remain at home until she gets recovers from the COVID-19 infection. Till she gets recovered, Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw will be performed as a Prime Minister during this period. 

Commonwealth leaders from across 54 Commonwealth countries will travel to Rwanda to showcase their common values and create agendas and strategies of actions and policies to improve the lives of all their citizens. Decisions taken at CHOGM also guide the work programme of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The Commonwealth of Nations is an intergovernmental organization that comprises 54 member nations from Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Pacific. The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is one of the largest summits for world leaders across the globe. It represents one of the most important fora for the issues of small island developing states to be heard and addressed by the international community. It aims to reinforce multilateral cooperation, explore new opportunities, and tackle common challenges for the well-being of future generations.
