Weather: Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique under Tropical Storm Warning

The Warning stated that these Tropical Storm conditions were possible for the country in the next 36 hours, and at around 5 pm, the disturbance was always centred at latitude 8.6° North, longitude 50.89° West, about 650 nautical miles east southeast of Grenada.

Grenada: The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) issued the Tropical Storm Warning for Grenada and its dependencies and advised the general public to become more cautious. 

The Warning stated that these Tropical Storm conditions were possible for the country in the next 36 hours, and at around 5 pm, the disturbance was always centred at latitude 8.6° North, longitude 50.89° West, about 650 nautical miles east southeast of Grenada.

The system is also heading toward the west-northwest near 18 mph, and this general motion could be continued for the next few days and maximum sustained winds are mostly near 40 mph with higher gusts. 

The winds related to Tropical-storm-force extended outward up to 60 miles north of the centre, and the estimated minimum central pressure would be 1009 MB. 

Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique could expect cloudy to overcast conditions with moderate to heavy scattered showers, thundershowers and gusty winds on Tuesday night, with these conditions continuing into Wednesday morning.

The government of Grenada also advised the people of the country to take cautious measures and are ready to be activated should the need arise.  

The government of Grenada also shared the precautionary tips which is as follows: 

  • Advised people to continue to monitor NaDMA’s social media page and media houses for weather forecasts and updates.
  • Need to Reduce hazards in and around your home and asserted to cut overhanging trees, restrain loose outdoor furniture and items, clean clogged gutters and blocked drains
  • Advised people to review your family plan; discuss with members actions to be taken if the hazard impacts the island.
  • The government of Grenada also advsied to ensure emergency contact numbers are updated and share.
  • The government urged to identify the nearest shelter to your home.
  • People are advised to Check your emergency supply kit
  • Also recommend Safeguard important documents.
  • Store water in clean covered containers/ ensure your tanks supply has been replenished.
  • Prepare for vulnerable members of your family; the elderly, children, pets, and people living with chronic illnesses.
