Weather: Periods of light to heavy rain and occasional moderate to heavy showers have affected Guadeloupe, Dominica, and Martinique overnight to morning. Some showers also impacted Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines.

Low level moisture has increased over the Lesser Antilles last 12-24 hours, with the wind flow coming more from the ESE to SE. This is helping the mid-upper level trough to be more effective at enhancing rainfall over the parts of the islands, especially from the north of Barbados to St. Lucia to Leewards.

As the day progresses, daytime heating will help produce some more light to moderate showers which can be briefly heavy and slight chance of thunderstorms. Over Trinidad with a more easterly to ESE wind flow, expect showers and possible thunderstorms to form more on the western to northwestern areas.

Later tonight to Tuesday, there will be an increase in cloudiness, periods of rain, chances for moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The risk for flash flooding and landslide events is elevated for areas with recently heavy rainfall. This risk needs to be assessed later as there may be pockets of high moisture convergence developing in shorter periods with slower steering wind at mid-upper levels. So if deeper thunderclouds can form they will move a bit slower.

Over Guyana and Suriname the base of the upper trough will provide a favorable environment for scattered moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms to form, especially with a mid-level trough slowing down wind flow.

Overnight to morning moderate to strong thunderstorm clusters formed east of Trinidad and Tobago, bringing some heavy showers and long periods of rain. This continued to add to already occurring flash and river flooding.

Across the Windwards, there have been periods of moderate to heavy showers, including on Saint Lucia, Martinique, Grenada and St Vincent. The chances for occasional moderate to heavy showers continue. A few surface troughs are within theITCZ, one around the islands currently, 1 passing Guyana and another which extends into the Atlantic, entering French Guiana( will arrive late Saturday to Sun).

Expecting more wet weather Friday, in some cases, especially southern islands, with higher chances for showers as the upper trough settles in. The risk of flash flooding and landslides continues.
