The United States congratulated the people of Saint Lucia on the occasion of their 42nd independence day.

An official statement released by US Embassy in Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean & OCES said, ” The United States values Saint Lucia’s regional leadership and partnership. We continue to take steps forward together in education, entrepreneurship, and youth development while combatting the pandemic. “

It added, ” This year, we completed the Early Learners Program, through which more than 90 schools received reading materials and teacher training to improve literacy among primary students. “

“Together with Taiwan, we promoted business development through entrepreneurship networks and startup incubators. We appreciate Saint Lucia’s consistent voice for democracy and human rights in the hemisphere.” the statement noted. 

As a result,” We are proud of our strong bilateral relationship, and we look forward to continuing to work with Saint Lucia toward a more secure, prosperous, resilient, and democratic Caribbean.” 

Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Allen Chastanet also wished the people through his social media. 

He said, ” Happy Independence Day to All Saint Lucians. As we enjoy a quiet 42nd Independence Anniversary, let’s use this time to reflect and recommit, building a new and better Saint Lucia for generations to come. “

He tweeted,” We can, and We will succeed—a Happy Independence Day to all. May God bless you all, and May God continue to bless our beautiful island. #Independence42 #AResilientNation #WeCanWeWill . ” 

He will also address the nation, as the country is suffering from the coronavirus pandemic, so it is impossible to celebrate the occasion as last year. 

On Sunday, Feb. 21, the Ministry of Health received confirmation of 57 new cases of COVID-19 and 141 recoveries. The Ministry of Health also reports one COVID-19 related death, bringing the total number of deaths to 32. The whole number of active cases is now 428.
