UNICEF Caribbean to host Research, Essay, Poster competitions

Caribbean: UNICEF Eastern Caribbean is all set to host Research, Essay and Poster competitions in the region. It will be part of the 18th Caribbean Child Research Conference, scheduled to take place on November 29 and 30, 2023.

UNICEF Eastern Caribbean also announced the details of the competition and invited the children for registration. The deadline for the submission of the registration form in these three competitions is October 4, 2023.

The winners of the competition will be awarded with cash prizes.

The Caribbean Child Research conference will be held under the theme – “A safer Planet for every child.” The conference is aimed to showcase the essay writing, poster making and research skills of the children.

It has also strived for a world where children’s rights are respected and their voices are heard.

Guidelines for Research Competition

SUBMISSION RULES

  • Children between the ages of 15 to 17 are allowed to take part in the competition.
  • The research paper should be 1,500 to 2,000 words in total (including references, etc.).
  • The font of the paper should be Times New Roman 12-point, double-spaced with a 1-inch margin.
  • It can be qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods research.
  • It should be less than three years old and must be original work by an individual student.
  • Submissions must include: Name, Age, Country, School, Teacher/Parent/Guardian and their contact information.
  • The participants will have to submit entries to childconferenceresearch@gmail.com

RESEARCH PAPER ENTRIES SHOULD BE:

  • Focused on respecting children’s rights and voices in areas such as climate change, education, discrimination, mental health, etc.
  • Linked to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Conducted by an individual student.

As per the guidelines, if a student researcher is unable to submit the papers by themselves and someone else is submitting on their behalf, there should be a cover letter clearly stating the researcher’s permission to submit the papers.

Guidelines for Essay Competition

SUBMISSION RULES

  • The essay competition is for children aged 11-14.
  • The participants will have to submit an essay on why it’s important for children’s voices to be heard and their rights respected.
  • The participants can look at rights in areas like climate change, education, poverty, discrimination or mental health, etc.
  • Essays should be between 450 and 650 words. Essay must be written by children.
  • It will include: Name, Age, Country, School and Teacher/Parent/Guardian and their contact information.
  • Submit entries to childconferenceresearch@gmail.com

Guidelines for Poster Competition

SUBMISSION RULES

  • The participants will have to send a poster showing why it’s important for children’s voices to be heard and their rights respected. You can look at rights in areas like climate change, education, poverty, discrimination or mental health, etc.
  • Posters should be hand-drawn/painted by children, with a title and description.
  • It should be included: Name, Age, Country, School and Teacher/Parent/Guardian contact information.
  • Take a photo of the poster and submit it to childconferenceresearch@gmail.com
