Opposition leader of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad Bissessar stated that her party United National Congres is prepared and ready to take over as the government.
Kamla made these remarks during a press briefing on Wednesday. She stated that people have been asking her the plan of the United National Congress and whether or not her party is prepared.
“I have heard calls and questions being asked – so what is the UNC’s plan? Unlike the PNM, we are prepared. The UNC is prepared and ready to take over the management of Trinidad and Tobago right now! We had a plan for recovery and growth post-COVID.”, added Kamla Persad.
Kamla Persad Bissessar, who is also the former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, said that on May 4, 2020, she presented a post-COVID-19 plan with five economic booster shots for resilient recovery and growth.
She noted that when the initial COVID-19 cases were reported in 2020, her United National Congress had laid out a plan and proposed to reduce the tax burden, jumpstart food security, restart a reformed oil refinery to regain fuel security, investments in renewable energy and also the creation of 3 innovative funds to mobilize financial resources.
Trinidad and Tobago is experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases, with as many as 200 people regularly testing positive for the disease. Prime Minister Keith Rowley has announced a lockdown, and all non-essential places are ordered to remain close.
Not only that, to keep an eye on ongoing activities in personal spaces, Prime Minister has ordered actions. The opposition United National Congress have been blaming the government for its unpreparedness to impose a lockdown.
The United National Congress and its leader Kamla Persad Bissessar has been lashing on the government since the new coronavirus limitations were imposed.
The health authorities of Trinidad and Tobago have warned that the coronavirus cases in the country are expected to grow, and the hospitals are already full to their 40% capacities.
