UK stands with SVG in this crucial time amid eruptions: British HC- Scott

Scott stated, “I am proud to represent the UK in this beautiful and fascinating region and to join my excellent team continuing to build the strong and vibrant relationships which the United Kingdom has with the governments and the people of the Eastern Caribbean.”

Following the statement cited that “There is so much that we can do together to enhance our shared prosperity and security. As well as to address the unique threats and challenges that small islands face. We have been reminded of those challenges recently, as our friends in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have faced the terrifying devastation of volcanic eruptions.”

He further expressed his solidarity and asserted, “The UK stands with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We have provided vital support to the relief effort, having pledged over the US $1 Million in emergency assistance to the initial response through CDEMA as well as through the World Food Programme.”

“This is in addition to further multilateral support UK is providing through the United Nations, the Red Cross and the World Bank. There is a long road ahead for the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,“- stated Scott.

He added, “The UK is committed to supporting the long term recovery through our ongoing US $55Million development assistance programme, and the UK is committed to the Caribbean and our friends and partners across this region.”

Concluding his statement Scott declared, “I look forward to playing my part over the years ahead.”

Besides this, the United Kingdom has provided over £15m to the Pan American Health Organisation- (PAHO) for emergency health supplies across Latin America and the Caribbean region to assist the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
