Yesterday, the US government donated a third tranche of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, consisting of 204,750 inoculations to Jamaica, bringing the US donations of 617,760.

The US embassy in Kingston said, “The US embassy in Kingston has taken a powerful mission-wide approach since the beginning of this global pandemic crisis, with contributing more than $1.8 billion ($12 million) to support Jamaica in the fight against Covid-19.”

The embassy said, “Through donations of vaccines, two field hospitals, medicines, automobiles and other essential equipment, the US embassy will work with local partners to ensure that we all will come out of this stronger.

Notably, this was the third tranche that the US has donated to strengthen Jamaica’s fight against Covid-19. It will also boost up bilateral relations between two nations.

Bilateral relations between US and Jamaica:-

The US established diplomatic relations with Jamaica in 1962, following Jamaica’s independence from the United Kingdom. Both nations share a solid and productive tie based on trust and mutual interest.

The US and Jamaica have a tremendous bilateral relationship and work closely to implement peace and enhance regional security and stability through the Organization of American States (OAS) and Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI).

The US also provides vital assistance to Jamaica in fighting violent crime. Both nations focus on combatting corruption, maintaining transparency and good governance, strengthening primary education, increasing energy resilience.

Notably, since the start of the pandemic, the US government has provided over $4 million in assistance to help address Covid-19 related requirements in Jamaica and over 100,000 vaccines through the COVAX facility.
