Two people killed in an aircraft crash on Bahamas island

Two people were killed in a jet that crashed in bushes near the Treasure Cay International Airport in Abaco on late Monday. A team from the Air Accident Investigation Authority is likely to be stationed at Treasure Cay on Tuesday.

Bahamas: Two people were killed in a jet that crashed in bushes near the Treasure Cay International Airport in Abaco on late Monday. A team from the Air Accident Investigation Authority is likely to be stationed at Treasure Cay on Tuesday.

The Police officials had informed that the aircraft – an IAI Westwind, was immersed in the fire when rescue teams arrived at the crash site.

“The initial inquiries have revealed that the airplane was observed taxiing, and after a short time, smoke and flames were seen approaching from the airplane,” the police officers added.

Following the statement, the Police officers further noted that the two pilots were on board the aeroplane when it crashed. Moreover additionally, checks were made, and there was no sign of life on board. The nationalities of the pilots are not immediately identified yet.

Stephen Rolle, who is the Assistant Superintendent of Police, in an issued statement, asserted that the bodies were burned beyond identification.

While the Tourism and Aviation Minister – Dionisio D’Aguilar, cited that the plane had arrived on Abaco from the Dominican Republic Caribbean island last Friday.

The Aviation Minister further informed and stated that “It dropped off, as per my assumptions I think, they might be some foreign visitors, but I’m not sure who.”

“The plane then filed a flight plan to fly from Treasure Cay to Nassau. We don’t know the intention, but it seemingly was to refuel. In taking off, the plane crashed,” D’Aguilar added while in a conversation with a local media house.

The local media house stated that a video, Pastor Silbert Mills, an Abaco resident, recorded the video of the incident in which a plume of smoke rising from flames at the crash site is shown. While on the other images of burnt and blackened, destroyed plane parts are also widely disseminated on the various social media platforms.
