T&T to provide flood relief assistance to Guyana

The government of Trinidad and Tobago has agreed on providing flood relief assistance to Guyana island amid the flooding situation on the island. Yet, it is not declared when this assistance would be provided to Guyana island.

Trinidad and Tobago: The government of Trinidad and Tobago has agreed on providing flood relief assistance to Guyana island amid the flooding situation on the island. Yet, it is not declared when this assistance would be provided to Guyana island.

The Office of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, in a statement, cited that Guyana has been encountering heavy and above-average rainfall since the month of May, which further lead to severe flooding in the country.

In his recent statement, the President of Guyana – Irfaan Ali, declared the flooding as a Level 2 event and declared it a disaster. As a result of this relentless flooding, the Guyana island urged support for the various relief items from the CARICOM region.

The office of the Prime Minister, T&T, stated that PM Rowley had given instructions to immediately make the essential arrangements to deliver the requested relief items to Guyana as a matter of urgency, and as per the instructions, the government of Trinidad and Tobago is organising for the flood relief supplies to be delivered to Guyana island.

They added that these relief items would be coordinated by the Ministry of Trade and Industries and the Ministry of National Security (Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management) under the direction of the office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM affairs.

Earlier this month, the European Union – EU also announced emergency assistance to Guyana amid the flood situation. This assistance of the EU would be given under the Civil Protection Mechanism of the EU.

Guyana island is currently facing a flood situation and various regions of the nation have suffered massive loss because of heavy rainfall and flood. Although, the government of Guyana has guaranteed its citizens to provide proper flood relief assistance to the flood-affected areas and people.
