T&T records 278 new COVID infections

Trinidad and Tobago island have reported 278 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant on 17 August 2021, as per the report of the Health Ministry.

As per the report, there are 5,966 total active cases in the nation. In comparison, a total of 35,071 individuals have been recovered from the contagious COVID-19 virus. 

In total, around 313 people are still in the hospital. The Health Ministry

further informed in the report that a total of 1,196 patients have died on the Caribbean island as of 17 August 2021. 

According to the report, there are a total of 93 patients in the step-down facilities, around 134 individuals are in the state-quarantine facilities. A total of 5,282 individuals have isolated themselves at their respective homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as per the data shared in the health ministry’s report of T&T. 

So far, as of 17 August 2021, in Trinidad and Tobago, a total of 457,991 individuals have received their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, whereas, in total, 329,737 individuals have welcomed their second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine and now are fully vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19. 

If we look at the statistics of COVID-19 testing, a total of 293,666 individuals have been tested for the novel coronavirus, out of which 126,522 COVID-19 tests were conducted at private healthcare facilities. In contrast, 167,144 people were tested at the public healthcare facilities for the novel coronavirus. 

In their report, the Health Ministry further informed that the samples of these new 278 COVID-19 positive cases were taken between 13 August to 16 August 2021. 

As per the report, since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the Caribbean island has reported a total of 42,233 cases of the deadly virus.
