Trinidad and Tobago: The government of Trinidad and Tobago has stated that in the upcoming seven days, more than 8,000 families would get the veggie, fruit and chicken packages by NAMDEVCO.

Already, 17,000 families have received their packages in the month of May. These packages are distributed to those people who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to this, 20,000 families would soon receive two local chickens through their Councillors or Assemblymen.

PNM stated, “We have decided to distribute this via each Councillor in Trinidad and the 12 Assemblymen in Tobago. Each will be allocated 260 chickens to be distributed in packages of 2 to 130 families of their choice. Packages are chicken only. The details are being finalized.”

With this, around 28,000 more families would get local food packages. That’s 45,000 in all, and still, 50,000 more to come in June and July. By the end of the month of July 2021, this number could reach 100,000 families.

The San Fernando City Corporation – SFCC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, and NAMDEVCO, made available 130 chicken packages per Councillor which further would be distributed among people.

This food relief package distribution is across the 14 municipalities.

The government further stated that this initiative would not have been possible without the intervention of the Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries Senator, the Honourable Clarence Rambharat and his team at NAMDEVCO.

This initiative saw the distribution of 20,000 chickens, which were donated by the Arawak and Company Limited to across 190 Councillors for further distribution across Trinidad.

The government asserted that “Distribution of these items to the respective places have commenced from today and would continue till tomorrow. The Ministry of Rural Development & Local government remains committed to work with all agencies to help citizens affected during the COVID-19 pandemic and further looks forward to another distribution of this magnitude in the month of June.”

The government have once again also urged the residents of T&T to follow all Public Health Guidelines issued by the ministry of health and to follow the 3W’s, that is – wear your masks, wash your hands and watch your distance in order to defeat this pandemic and to overcome it.
