T&T government to roll Pop-Up Vaccination sites at construction sites, malls, groceries and markets

The Minister of Health – Terrence Deyalsingh, announced that the National Vaccination Programme would be expanded to target all sectors in the nation. He informed that Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines will now be available across the 109 Health Centres in the country.

Pop-Up Vaccination sites will also be rolled out at construction sites, malls, groceries and markets, and the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will now be offered to Health Care Workers and Teachers, the health Minister stated.

The Minister added that “A vaccination programme to begin across some schools to allow students the opportunity to be vaccinated.” Minister Deyalsingh noted that 25% of the eligible school population had been vaccinated till date; however, the Minister also pointed out that the daily number of children being vaccinated had decreased significantly.

Dr Rowley also announced that the government would review the possibility of reopening places of worship by September 6th, 2021, in restricted numbers. The Prime Minister, in his address, also expressed disappointment in the country’s vaccination numbers by stating that at this time, there are still 800,000 people eligible to be vaccinated in Trinidad and Tobago.

As per the Acting Principal Medical Officer – Dr Maryam Richards, the number of children currently hospitalised with COVID-19 has now increased to 10. Dr Richards said 8 children are receiving ward level care, 1 child is in the high-dependency unit, and 1 child is in the intensive care unit.

PM Rowley and Minister Deyalsinghhas once again appealed to parents to take advantage of the opportunity and get their children vaccinated as soon as possible in order to defeat the deadliest COVID-19 virus.
