The government of Trinidad and Tobago has issued food distribution grants worth of TTD $10Million to religious organisations amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. 

Trinidad and Tobago: The government of Trinidad and Tobago has issued food distribution grants worth of TTD $10Million to religious organisations amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. 

The government has issued these grants as part of the ongoing efforts to provide food to the most needed and vulnerable citizens of T&T following the COVID-19 pandemic. The office of the government of Trinidad and Tobago made the announcement via their social media handle.

Following the statement, the government noted that it recognises the necessity for additional assistance to those who have been more acutely affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic. 

The government also ensured that it would continue to work arm-in-arm with the non-governmental entities and religious organisations in order to provide more comfortable and broader access to the help that is available across the twin-island state. 

“Additionally, the government continues its effort by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, the Ministry of Finance and several other Ministries and Agencies, including Salary Relief Grants, Income Support Grants, Rental Assistance and food packages to help the people in these tough times,” the government added. 

According to the report of the health ministry of T&T, as of 18 June 2021, the island has reported a total of 227 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant taking the total number of active novel coronavirus cases to 8,578. 

The island has a death rate of 713, and a total of 20,892 patients have been recovered from the deadly mutant in Trinidad and Tobago. 

As per vaccination stats till 18 June 2021, 173,878 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while around 36,620 individuals who have received their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine are now fully vaccinated against the deadly mutant.
