Grenada: Prime Minister of Grenada- Dickon Mitchell expressed dismay at the damages of a tropical wave, which brought unexpected hurricane-force winds to the shore of the country.
On Saturday night into Sunday morning, the cloudiness associated with a Tropical Wave developed unexpectedly to bring Category 1 Hurricane forces winds to the State of Grenada and other Caribbean countries.
PM Mitchell, through his social media, noted, “Yesterday, we awoke to the damages of a tropical wave, which brought unexpected hurricane force winds to our shores.”
By keeping the entire situation in mind, PM Mitchell stressed that the country should move on the path of climate-resilience mechanisms and look for ways to counter these natural disasters efficiently.
He further stated that the assessments on the extent of the damages continue; however, initial surveys of this exceptional weather event reinforce how vitally important it is that they strengthen our climate resilience mechanisms.
PM Mitchell also extended deep grief to those who have suffered losses due to the adverse weather. He assured the country that emergency teams had been deployed to safeguard the lives of the people. The teams are also provided tarpaulins and other necessary items for short-term protection from the elements.
“Our hearts go out to everyone who has suffered losses as a result of this adverse weather. Our emergency teams have been in contact with several of the most affected persons, and we have provided tarpaulins and other necessary items for short-term protection from the elements,” said the prime minister.
He also extended gratitude to the neighbours and friends who are pitching in and sacrificing to help those in need right now. This is the true spirit of who they are as a people. As they progress into the hurricane season, PM Mitchell also asked all citizens to remain vigilant and stay tuned to official channels of information.
Earlier, Forecaster Finbar Frank also explained the events and stated that the situation pointed out that rapid cloud development to the immediate east of Grenada in association with a Tropical Wave led to Sunday morning weather.
