The taxi fare on the route of Tobago will be increased by $1 from March 15, 2022, and people have to pay extra fare while travelling in Taxi in Trinidad and Tobago. The President of the West-End Taxi Association, Andy Clinton, has informed about the increment on Thursday, February 23, 2022, and noted that the move would be officially formalised after a meeting with eastbound taxi drivers.

The meeting between the taxi drivers will be held this weekend to discuss various aspects of the increment in the taxi fare.

So, the people who belong to the region Tobago and work in the western parts of the island will have to pay more payments while travelling in the taxi as per the reports.

While remarking about the decision, President Clinton explained that we should meet the president of the east taxi drivers association, which would regularise the prices and what we are step, the association will provide the information about the further decisions.

As of now, the tax travellers have to pay $8 from Scarborough to parts of Canaan/Bon in Tobago, and with the increase in the taxi fare, the price would be increased to $ 9

Moreover, the fare from Scarborough to Crown Point will be increased to $10, while it will be increased to $16 when travelling to Pigeon Point.

As per Clinton, the decision has been taken due to the rise of the cost of maintenance of the vehicle, which should be collected from the taxi fares.

He further emphasised the impact of the novel coronavirus on the industry and asserted that the industry had faced a huge setback as when there was covid the taxi operators used to carry two passenger a due to the protocols of the viral illness which have halted the income of the taxi operated at a huge pace.
