Trinidad: Racquel Moses to represent Caribbean at climate change summit of United Nations
Racquel Moses, CEO of Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator, has been appointed as the new UN global ambassador. She is representing the Caribbean region in the climate change summit of the United Nations this time.
In Glasgow, Scotland, the 26th UN framework convention on climate change has been holding its yearly conference of parties (CoP26). This conference is scheduled from October 31 to November 12.
In a release by Island innovation, they stated that the UN High-Level Climate Champions had chosen a small group of global leaders to represent their region. In this group, Moses is also included, she is a Trinidadian, representing Caribbean in the conference.
According to the reports, it is being said that the selection of global ambassadors was made after examining their work to which they were committed to transformation changes regarding the climate crisis and their new ways for tackling these crises.
According to a statement by CCSA, the organisation has been created with leaders who have a collective vision for the Caribbean to become the world’s leading climate-smart zone. This organisation was created with the partnership of the Prime Ministers of Dominica, St Lucia, Grenada and Sir Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin group.
After getting appointed as the UN global ambassador while reacting, Moses said, “It is an honour to have been selected as an ambassador for the UNFCCC Race to Zero and Race to Resilience programme. I was already set to travel to Glasgow to take part in COP26 and represent the interests of the Caribbean and other developing nations, and this has bolstered my determination to bring forth the challenges we are facing.”
Moses said that various Islands in the Caribbean region have not been able to send their delegations amid the COVID-19 surge. Some of them don’t have accessibility to the location where the conference is being held. So as a responsibility of representation in Glasgow, it is an important time for her.
