Tobago: The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation hosted Tourism students of the Sixth Form Government School Community on an educational field trip to Tobago from March 9th-11th, 2023.
The team was led by Ms Nicole Noel, Tourism Teacher III and comprised twenty-three (23) Tourism students, two (2) teachers and a few parents. The overall visit was coordinated and facilitated by the DoTCAT through its Programme Coordination Unit. The Tobago Tourism Agency and other tourism stakeholders and industry partners also supported the initiative.
The visit aimed to educate students about Tobago’s Tourism product offerings and give them a hands-on experience of the island’s unique culture, historical sites and attractions. In addition, it served as an effective medium for the students to fulfil the practical element of their course of study.
The group’s activities included an official tour of the Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort, ‘Tobago Beyond’ brand presentation and interactive session by the Tobago Tourism Agency, a tour of Fort King George and a visit to the Castara Community, which has an excellent Community-Tourism model and was recently selected to participate in the UNWTO Best Tourism Village Upgrade Programme.
The team also visited the DoTCAT Head Office, where an interactive session was held with the Administrator, Mr Suresh Dookhoo, Programme Coordinator, Mrs Sandra Orr-Toney, and Mrs Oona McNeil-Benjamin- Assistant Research and Development Officer.
The students and staff of the Sixth Form Government School Tourism class expressed that the visit was memorable for all involved and emphasized the hospitality and warmth displayed by the staff of the Division and its Programme Coordination Unit.
As a result, the school also noted that the students have since shown a vested interest in establishing a Tourism Youth Club and anticipate further collaboration between them and the Division.
The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation of Tobago shared glimpses and photo highlights from the group’s visit to DoTCAT’s Head Office.
