Three new sports courts commissioned in Dominica

The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has commissioned Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Hard Courts and National Netball League courts. The opening ceremony was held on 6 June 2021.

Dominica: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has commissioned Hard Courts in Windsor Park Sports Stadium, and National Netball League courts. The opening ceremony was held on 6 June 2021.

The Prime Minister of Dominica – Roosevelt Skerrit, was there at the opening ceremony of these courts with MP Melissa Skerrit, Sports Minister –  Roselyn Paul and was accompanied by the other executive members and officials.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, PM Skerrit asserted, “Today we are commissioning three new courts at the time when the nation is confronting a pandemic. The pandemic has eroded our revenue-based in Dominica.”

“I want to commend and recognize the leadership, determination and perseverance & the clear vision that our Member of Parliament – Melissa Skerrit has displayed for the city of Roseau.”

PM Skerrit further stated that through MP Melissa Skerrit, the nation had seen the resurgence of the capital city. There are many ongoing programmes in Roseau that are touching the core people of the constituency, and when the capital city marks investment and development, it additionally helps in the whole nation’s development.

The prime minister added that he believes the people of Roseau city are in good hands and would be in good hands for a very long time to come and stated that netball should be given primary attention and one of the courts should be dedicated to the sport.

“When you look at the investments that we are making in several communities during the global pandemic, I’m not aware of any other nation in the world who is spending money on sports as for many nations when you feel the financial challenge, you start cutting, and sports is something that most of the governments would cut,” PM Skerrit cited.

“I would like to give my thanks to the government of Dominica, and for the investment it is making in the young people of our island.”

With this, he added that the government would also make a similar kind of investment in Portsmouth in order to improve the sporting opportunities for the citizens of the country.

Following the statement, PM Skerrit hoped that the youth of the capital city would properly utilize these courts and take advantage of the sporting facilities, and added that the government is focusing on the sports sector to reduce the cases of CNC – Carney complex disease in the nation as it has the greatest impact & threat to the economy of Dominica.

PM Skerrit also commended the netball association officials and assured the government’s support to the organization.
