The announcement has made by Deputy Prime Minister Richards during the presentation where he launched the National Determined Contribution (NDC) Implementation Plant at the St Kitts Marriott Resort. He stated that with the held of solar, rooftop, utility-scale power, wind and geothermal, the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis could achieve these renewable resources of energy.
Outlining the several aspects, Deputy PM of St Kitts and Nevis Shawn Richards noted, “To accelerate the renewable energy penetration and to achieve the renewable of energy, the country has to establish, enables suitable policies and regulate the various frameworks and secure the investments in renewable technologies are in huge need.”
Further, he also stated that the energy sector that is operating in the Federation has emissions of ninety percent of greenhouse gas which he has oversight the contribution. Moreover, sixty percent of the burning of diesel for electricity reduction also contributes to gas emissions. On the other hand, around thirty percent of gasoline and diesel for transportation contributes to gas emissions.
He also asserted that it provides him great pride to speak about the various forms of the strides the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis has made a contribution to advancing renewable energy.
The Minister of Public Infrastructure Shawn Richards added that some of the country’s responsible corporate entities that have already demonstrated their permission to lead this by jumping on the renewable energy train.
“Since 2010, two of the largest trading companies, TDC and SL Horsford’s, have installed in excess of 1.5 megawatts of solar PV between them. The country has also given permission to commission a 0.75 megawatts solar farm at the airport, a 0.5 megawatts solar farm for Skelec and a 1.0-megawatt solar farm at ECCB,” underlined Deputy Prime Minister Richards.
