Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris has been accompanied by the Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Michael Lin to St Kitts and Nevis, and the staffers from the Taiwanese Embassy in the monthly health walk on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

While applauding the Prime Minister of Twin Island Federation at the end of the walk, which culminated at the Ottley’s Hardcourt, Ambassador Lin commended, “The initiation started by the government has encouraged the persons, particularly those residing in Consitutency Seven to engage in physical activities efficiently.

Outlining various projects, Lin informed that the Taiwanese Embassy is collaborating with the Ministry of Health with the several projects which facilitate both the countries to improve the overall health and wellness of citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis.

“We are collaborating with the Ministry of Health of the twin-island Federation on various projects such as Chronic Disease Prevention Project to improve nutrition at the local level and combat diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. The project will primarily focus on the patient’s diet”, Ambassador Lin.

He further informed that their Taiwanese volunteer, Debbi Ou, has been working in St Kitts and Nevis over the last year on the project, which facilitates people to maintain their diest and physical activities. Lin said that the country also has partnered with the Ministry of Health and many business and community organisations to do health screenings across the country to know the health status of the people of Nevis.

Prime Minister Timothy Harris consider the health walk as a viable means of promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical activities.

The Morning Health Walk of St Kitts and Nevis was initiated by Prime Minister Timothy Harris in April 2007 and the parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven (Belle Vue to Ottley’s).

Prime Minister Harri also presented his happiness on the visit of the Taiwanese Ambassador to St Kitts and Nevis and asserted, “Appreciate the support of staff from the Taiwan Embassy who took part in this month’s Health Walk. Always great to see our friends and colleagues walking alongside us”.
