Youth Parliament will be a two-day activity which is organized every year to encourage the youth and create awareness among them about the various aspects of the functioning of the Government in the country.

Castries, St Lucia: The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has declared the date for the commencement of the Youth Parliament in St Lucia and stated that it would be convened on May 11 and May 12, 2022.

Youth Parliament will be a two-day activity that is organized every year to encourage the youth and create awareness among them about the various aspects of the functioning of the Government in the country.

The Ministry of Youth Development announces,” The convening of the Youth Parliament in St Lucia, set for May 11th and 12th, 2022. The two-day activity opens as National Youth Month, observed in April, ends.”

Youth Parliament in St Lucia will be organized to observe the National Youth Month, which ended in April. 

Youth Parliament is always commenced by taking one topic, and all the speeches of the participants revolved around the particular topic. This year, the debate will focus attention on the 2018 “Child Justice Act”.

The Child Justice Act established the judicial procedure for the treatment of children and youth. Through the Act, the children and youth is being prosecuted within the count and penal system if they are accused of committing any offence. 

It also aims to protect the rights of children and provides for other related matters. The major focus of the Act revolves around the protection of the child and youth. It also deals with matters related to the youth of the country. 

The law is founded on the OECS Model Child Justice Legislation, an initiative of the OECS Family Law Reform Project.

So, every participant in the Youth Parliament will have to outline the various factors of the Act and also create awareness about the Act. 

The young Parliamentarians from around St Lucia were selected following application and interview through the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports – Saint Lucia. The Youth Parliament event was preceded by training sessions conducted by the current Speaker of the House, Claudius J. Francis.

Youth Parliament affords young people an opportunity to make recommendations to the Government regarding the development of the country.
