Saint Lucia: The opposition party (St Lucia Labour Party) leader – Phillip J Perrie, while addressing the people at the Constituency office in Ciceron on 7 July 2021, asked the citizens to cast their votes for the other candidates of SLP – St Lucia Labour Party.
He said despite helping the poor and vulnerable, the United Workers Party government spent 20 million on constructing a road that was shorter than a mile.
He further added that the government could have used the money to provide a quality life to the citizens.
“The UWP government cannot make the people fool now. It is the St Lucia’s government, not the businessmen, who are creating the problems,” the opposition leader stated.
Following the statement during his address, SLP Leader assured the public that there would not be any kind of discrimination. He said the rich and poor would be treated equally if the St Lucia Labour Party gets in power.
“I promise to all the citizens that whosoever is corrupted would have to face the law,” the opposition leader added.
The SLP leader also asked the people to choose their leader wisely and vote for Ernest Hilaire as the representative of Ciceron as only nineteen days are left for the election day.
Phillip further promised the citizens that if SLP is elected, then the citizens would only have to pay tax on income of 3,000 dollars (per month). Moreover, the SLP would take the burden of facility fees of the parents who are jobless and cannot pay the fees for their children.
The opposition leader noted, “These two are part of the policies that SLP would implement if elected as SLP is a people’s party that put the citizens first, but not like the UWP government who does not care about the future of the country and its residents.”
Earlier, the opposition party also called the tenure of the UWP government as a failed term and stated that PM Chastanet had taken poor decisions for the island was not even able to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
