St Lucia: The government of St Lucia has shared the schedule for the commemorations of the National Library Week 2022, which started on April 4, 2022, and will be ended on April 9, 2022. St Lucia commemorates National Library Week 2022 under the theme “Connect with Your Library.”
National Library Week is observed annually in the first week of April. The country organized the national Library week to celebrate the nation’s libraries, and the contributions of library workers, and ultimately seeks to promote library use and support.
The main aim of the commemoration of the week is to create awareness about the significance of the nooks in the life of human beings.
The government of St Lucia has also organized an opening ceremony for National Library Week. The official opening ceremony was held at the Central Library in Castries in collaboration with the Hunter J. Francois Library at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.
In the opening ceremony, the government of St Lucia also paid tribute to various personalities. A special tribute was made to Mr. Hunter J. Francois, who served as the Minister for Education from 1964 to 1974 and was instrumental in the establishment of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. The Hunter J. François Library at the college is named in his honour; his family was present to receive the token.

Further, there are several activities planned to observe during the week.
Here is the schedule for the National Library Week:
- On April 4, 2022- The official opening of the National Library Week 2022 has been held at the Central Library Reading Room at 10:00 am.
- On April 5, 2022- The National Library Workers Day has also held as a day set aside to recognize library workers.
- On April 6, 2022- National Outreach Day will be held through a visit to schools on a registration drive interactive Reading Session (North, Central, South, East).
- On April 7, 2022- There will take action for Libraries Day for the formation of a joint report on the status of libraries in St Lucia. So, visit libraries around the island.
- On April 8, 2022- There will be St Lucian Authors Exhibition with the Lunch Time Poetry at St Lucia Winter’s Forum
April 5 marks National Library Workers Day, which honors the contributions of library workers. Outreach events will be held on April 6, which include a registration drive and an interactive reading session. On April 7, a report will be compiled that will provide an update on the status of libraries in Saint Lucia, and an Author’s Exhibition will be held on April 8.
The public is encouraged to visit their respective community libraries and make use of the resources available.
