St Lucia: On 27 April, Saint Lucia island recorded six more COVID-19 mutant cases, taking the total number of active cases in the country to 4,508 till now.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness received the information of confirmed six new COVID-19 cases from the Ezra Long Laboratory. These six cases are from the samples which were taken on 23 April and 24 April 2021 and were refined on 26 April.
Information was also received of the 17 recovered COVID-19 patients, and one death was reported by the Ministry of Health.
The recent death was of a 59-year-old woman from the Soufriere district with a medical illness.
According to the statistics, there are total of 4,508 COVID-19 virus cases, so far, 4,344 citizens have been recovered from the COVID and till now Saint Lucia has reported a total number of 74 deaths on the Island.
Recently, the Prime Minister of St Lucia – Allen Chastanet, received his second dose of Oxford- AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and he further appreciated the efforts of the frontline workers who are working day and night to defeat the COVID pandemic in the country.
Ministry of Health and Wellness launched the national COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign on 17 February 2021 and till now 23,941 Covid-19 vaccine doses are given to the citizens of Saint Lucia.
Various countries have donated vaccines to Saint Lucia, such as India, PAHO Caribbean, Barbados and Dominica. Under the COVAX facility, 24,000 doses were provided to Saint Lucia through the first group of COVAX.
The government of Saint Lucia has urged people to follow the COVID-19 protocols and to use safety measures to prevent get diagnose with COVID-19 mutant. The COVID pandemic has affected the economy of various countries.
If we look at the statistics, there are 148 million COVID-19 cases worldwide, 85.9 million people have been recovered so far and 3.13 million people have died because of the COVID-19 virus.
The Prime minister of Saint Lucia encouraged the residents of St Lucia to get themselves and their families vaccinated.
