St Lucia: PM Pierre mourns sudden demise of Former Member of Parliament for Castries Brathwaite

While paying tribute to Brathwaite, Prime Minister of St Lucia Philip J Pierre noted, "This morning, I learned about the passing of Desmond Brathwaite, a former Minister for Community Development, Youth & Sports and Member of Parliament for Castries South. To his family and friends, my sincerest condolences for your loss."

St Lucia: Prime Minister Dr Philip J Pierre mourned the sudden demise of Desmond Brathwaite, who is a former Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Member of Parliament for Castries South, on Saturday, April 9, 2022. 

He also paid tribute and condolences to his family, friends, and his dear ones.

While paying tribute to Brathwaite, Prime Minister of St Lucia Philip J Pierre noted, “This morning, I learned about the passing of Desmond Brathwaite, a former Minister for Community Development, Youth & Sports and Member of Parliament for Castries South. To his family and friends, my sincerest condolences for your loss.”

He further stated that upon hearing the sobering news, he instinctively went back to the last message that Brathwaite shared with him less than two weeks ago, which was entitled “Mystery in Life…” the message ended as follows:

“Take Life easy.

In the long run, we’ll all be the same…

So, forget all tensions in Life and enjoy…”

May he rest in eternal peace,” said PM Pierre.

Further, the Deputy Prime Minister of Castries Constituency, Ernest Hilaire also paid tribute to Brathwaite. He mourns the sudden demise of his and shows deep condolences to his family and friends. 

He said, “Life has its own way of ordering things in time and space. I have had the benefit of receiving counsel from two former Parliamentary Representatives – Desmond Braithwaite and Dr. Robert Lewis. This morning, Dr. Lewis messaged me to inform me of his death of Desmond. I extend my condolences to his family and friends.”

Ernest Hilaire added that he lived a life distinguished by service to Castries South. The only UWP candidate to have won the Castries South seat, and he achieved that feat twice. Despite the labour grounding in that Constituency, he is still remembered for his contribution. He fought hard in his politics yet served well. His advice was always passionate and pointed. He will be remembered.
