St Lucia government has extended the COVID-19 protocols till September 21, 2021, to stem the spread of the global pandemic.

Castries: St Lucia government has extended the COVID-19 protocols till September 21, 2021, to stem the spread of the global pandemic.

According to protocols issued by the government, beginning from Wednesday to Saturday, all business establishments or offices will cease operations at 6 pm as there will be a curfew from 7 pm to 4 am. On Saturday, all businesses will have to cease their operations at 3 pm as the curfew will be in effect from 4 pm to 4 am. And, there will be a complete shutdown on Sunday with a 24-hour curfew in effect.

The same restrictions will begin from Monday till September 21.

There are some adjustments in the COVID-19 protocols, which include suspension of the sale and disposal of intoxicating liquor at bars, rum shops and restaurants. Sale and disposal of intoxicating liquor from a supermarket, a gas station or wholesaler with a valid liquor licence will be permitted.

However, no consumption of intoxicating liquor will be permitted on licensed premises.

There will be a suspension of dining services at restaurants and food establishments. Takeaway and delivery services will be permitted.

Recreational/social activities at hotels will be permitted on the property during curfew hours, provided that such activities take place on the property. Water sports and other water-related activities such as boat rides, skiing et cetera must be suspended during the 24-hour weekend curfew.

Announcing the extension of curfew in St Lucia, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre said that protocols have been extended for another week and urged St Lucians, “We need to continue the work to fight COVID-19.”

“I am encouraged by the number of people taking the vaccine, so let’s keep it up. Encourage your family and friends to protect themselves and to follow the operating protocols. Sanitise, wear your mask, social distance and get vaccinated,” Prime Minister asserted.
