The St Lucia Fire Service is planning to join hands with Global EMS on a programme to better the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as provided by the Saint Lucia Fire Services. The training will begin on Monday, January 10 and will be completed on January 21, 2022.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the Global EMS will be back on the island in May this year to continue the programme.

As per the reports, it is the third time representatives of Global EMS are visiting. They are currently helping the Fire Department in conducting re-certification sessions along with the development of treatment protocols.

The Director of Global EMS, Dr Joachim Unger, said after the fulfillment of the current initiative will rebound to the benefit of the complete Saint Lucian population.

“We are working together step by step with the Saint Lucia Fire Service to develop and implement an Emergency Medical Service Improvement Programme aiming for the entire island and the population of Saint Lucia. The German Government is also supporting us in this cause. The Ministry of Structural Collaboration is funding us to work step to step with the Emergency Medical Service’s Instructors of the Saint Lucia Fire Service. We also did a workshop in October 2021 and developed treatment protocols for the EMS.”

Dr Unger further described that creating standardized measures for Emergency Medical Personnel to follow will mean better care for patients.
