Saint Lucia: The date has been finalized for the elections in St Lucia. Both parties have started to highlight the achievements of each other and have been showcasing the development schemes that would be in the process if they came into power after general elections.
The citizens of St Lucia, as well as the diaspora, have been eagerly waiting for the polling of the election. On one side, the UWP has started engaging with the public physically in this time of the pandemic, where physical touch is very contagious. On the other hand, SLP have been engaging with people virtually so that they might not be the reason for the rise in COVID-19 cases in St Lucia.
Instead of getting the views of ministers in power, reporter went to the Gros Islet constituency of Lenard Montoute from UWP for getting to know the opinion of the people about how their representative should be.
After reaching to the Gros Islet constituency of Lenard Montoute from UWP, Lara Marry, a doctor as well as a mother of 2 girls, while talking about the elections, stated, “These days the crime has been increasing in St Lucia being a doctor I attend many such emergency cases out of which majority are of women, but unfortunately these cases had not been highlighted in front of the public.”
Dr Marry added, “Now I am feeling the environment of St Lucia is not safe for the women and as being a woman and a mother of 2 girls. I am praying that the SLP win this years’ elections, or I would migrate to some other nation or another region in St Lucia.”
According to the statement of Dr Lara Marry, our team concluded that these days the safety of women has been at risk during the UWP led government.
James McZei, a farmer from St Lucia who grows bananas while telling his views to the team, informed that due to the natural calamities, he had lost his bananas crops that were ready to sell in the market, but now he does not have anything to sell.
He further added, “When the farmers like me go for help to the government, we only face ignorance, and at the same time, the big farmers of bananas and big businessmen those deals in bananas have been entertained like their guest. After the arrival of UWP government in St Lucia where there was a large stock of Bananas for exporting now, the quantity had decreased from 12 containers to 1 container of Bananas for exporting.”
As per the statement given by farmer James McZei, the team reached the conclusion that the farmers have been going through many hardships, especially the farmers that grow bananas during the government of UWP.
Our team has tried to put facts in front of the citizens of St Lucia; now, it is the turn of the people to cast their vote and choose their representative.
