Castries, St Lucia: The government of St Lucia is all set to welcome Lucia Carnival, and the Carnival Music Management Committee (CMMC) declared the Groovy and Power Soca Competition deadline and the submission of the songs for the competition. The competition will be held on June 3, 2022. 

The CMMC stated that the artists were interested in participating in the 2022 Groovy and Power Soca Monarch. The artists have to submit their compositions to the office of the CPMC at Seagrapes Avenue, Rodney Bay or the Cultural Development Foundation, Barnard Hill, Castries, no later than 4:00 pm on June 3.  

The CMMC also outlined the criteria for judging the format of the Groovy and Soca Monarch competition for this year in stages as given below: 

  • Pre-selection: Artists could submit their forms or songs through a USB drive for the Groovy and Power Soca Competitions. It will be judged by a panel which will be supervised by CMMC, CPMC and Events Company of St Lucia. The panel will select around 40 songs from each genre which enables them to go to the next stage. 
  • Elimination/Soca Quarters: At this stage, the form will be taken from a live audition on June 11, where artists from the Groovy and Soca genres. It will further go before the judges to present their compositions. They will select around 20 songs from each genre that will rod to the semi-final stage.
  • Semi-Finals/Soca Semis: The stage of the competition will be held on June 24 at the National Cultural Centre Grounds and also open to the general public. 
  • Soca Monarch Finals: The panel will further select around nine performers to compete against the defending Monarch for the finals on July 8.

The artists are to submit the completed registration form. Registration, forms, competition rules and judging criteria are available from the offices of the CPMC and CDF. Each artist is allowed to submit one composition of each genre.
