St Kitts and Nevis: On the auspicious occasion of Mother’s Day, leaders of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Denzil Llewellyn Douglas and Dr Terracnce Drew wished people with blessings and heartfelt messages.

While paying tribute to mothers, Denzil Douglas stated that he is joyful and honoured to pause with the global community, to pay tribute, and to give thanks to every mother in our lovely Federation and beyond.

“Regardless of your status: single mother, adopted mother, stepmother, surrogate mother, grandmother, godmother, great grandmother, mother to be and mother in living memory, today, God’s grace, glory and goodness are yours in abundance,” Douglas added.

He added that it is a testament to their love, resilience and caring that their children are alive and hopeful that brighter days are ahead. The past several months have been especially tough for the mothers. They have had to cope with and thrive in the middle of this global pandemic of lockdown, joblessness, death of loved ones and sickness running amok.

Expressing struggles faced by mothers, Douglas noted that while all of us are hurting, mothers have had to weather these storms by caring for their children under the toughest of circumstances. They have been subjected to increased domestic violence, poor healthcare services and children rebelling against the need for social outlets.

Lauding mothers, he said, “For your courage and tenacity, passion and patience, laughter and love, self-control and tough correction, we say thank you. You are special in your unique way and deserve God’s bountiful blessings! While there is no model of how to make a house a home, I believe that only mothers could write the best selling book on how to do this. They know how to put food on our tables and happiness in our hearts when all is down, and darkness looms.”

He said that everyone also takes the time to remember all mothers and grandmothers who are with the Lord and are resting in peace. May their wonderful legacies of hope and good values live on in every choice we make to improve our families, advance our communities, rebuild our Federation with honesty and collective prosperity, and impact the Caribbean and the world by using our innovative energies to brighten the corner where they are.

“As we continue to overcome all of the challenges of this receding global pandemic, I encourage us to sing the praises of our mothers for the time and resources they invested in our wholistic development. In so many ways, our mothers, dead or alive, have cultivated faith, hope and love in all of us. This has made us spiritually robust and morally strong,” Douglas added.

Further, the leader of SKNLP, Terrance Drew, expressed, “Happy Mothers Day to all of the mothers and motherly figures, including those of you from Constituency #8 as well as my own mother Ras Gerzel ‘ Pet’ Mills.

He said that the day, of course, is filled with messages of love and gratitude expressed in salute of all the contributions, sacrifices and support in our lives. Have a good day.Â
