St Kitts-Nevis Bar Association donates laptops to New Horizons Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre

Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanely extended gratitude to the St. Kitts-Nevis Bar Association, which made a generous donation today of five laptops and two tablets to the New Horizons Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre (NHRC), as part of its 2022 Law Week activities.

St Kitts and Nevis: Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanely extended gratitude to the St Kitts-Nevis Bar Association, which made a generous donation today of five laptops and two tablets to the New Horizons Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre (NHRC), as part of its 2022 Law Week activities.

Chairperson of the 2022 Law Week Committee, Violet Williams, noted that the Association was committed to improving the lives of children under court care.

She thanked members of the Bar Association/Law Week Committee for their work in making the donation possible, including President Kurlyn Merchant and members Talibah Byron, Idisha Greene, Tashna Powell-Williams, Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, and Sherryann Liburd-Charles. Several organizations were also credited for contributing generously to the effort, including the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation, the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, and the Bank of Nevis.

NHRC Director, Adele Williams, thanked the Association for the donation and for their longstanding commitment to the institution and its children, which has in the past included mentorship, the donation of needed equipment, as well as legal education and services.

Earlier, the Department of Gender Affairs officially launched its Boys Mentorship Programme in St Kitts today, Wednesday, November 24, 2022, starting with students of Verchild’s High School.

The programme was launched during a ceremony at the Railway Bar in Old Road and featured remarks by Junior Minister with responsibility for Gender Affairs,  Isalean Phillip and the Director of Gender Affairs, Virgil Jeffers.

Earlier, (November 18), a ceremony was held at Palms Court recognizing a number of men for their contribution to society in their respective fields.

The ceremony was hosted by the Ministry of Gender Affairs in observance of International Men’s Day, which is celebrated today (November 19) under the theme “Helping men and boys.”

In attendance at the award ceremony were Prime Minister Terrance Drew, Junior Minister of Gender Affairs, Isalean Phillip, Cabinet Secretary Dr Marcus L. Natta, Director of Gender Affairs, Virgil Jeffers,awardees, friends, families, citizens and other staff within the Ministry of Gender Affairs.
