St Kitts and Nevis: The Department of Environment and the Department of Marine Resources of St Kitts and Nevis is all set to host Regional Communication Training Workshop from 14-15 August 2023.

The Ministry is partnering with the OECS Commission to facilitate a Regional Communication Training Workshop from 14-15 August 2023 at the Solid Waste Management Corporation Conference Room.

During the 2-day training, environmental communication focal points from each OECS Member State will seek to improve skills associated with developing communication output.

Dr Joyelle Clarke- Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action & Constituency Empowerment, took to Facebook and shared an update.

This includes the use of equipment, data collection and the refining of writing skills. Member States requested training in the development of the communications capacity and also to be able to produce information that the public can easily understand when putting out information from projects.

This request was made following a regional Capacity Needs Assessment exercise in 2021, a direct outcome from the Biodiversity Support for ACP Coastal Environments (BioSPACE) and the Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) projects.

BioSPACE and ILM are support programmes that contribute to the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States in Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states in addition to supporting efforts to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 2: Zero Hunger, 13: Climate Action, 14: Life Below Water and 15: Life of Land.

The Department of Constituency Empowerment continues to develop partnerships within government that are intended to boost community cohesion and activism.

In this budding partnership with the Department of the Creative Economy, the officers are identifying walls to commence a wall mural project.

The Department of Constituency Empowerment (DCE) sat with the Capisterre Fishermen Marketing and Supplies Cooperative Society on Thursday 3 August, 2023.

The meeting focused primarily on the rehabilitation of the Cooperative Society’s building. However, the discussion entailed a comprehensive view of the revival of Dieppe Bay town, with a focus on the retention of tradition and cultural revitalization.
